Tsum Valley Trek takes you deep in the remote valley of Manaslu. For the adventure seekers who are accustomed to the rough and isolated trail, this is the ideal choice.

Though it’s quite challenging and long, it is a very rewarding trek. The trekking experience will be different from the one you get while trekking in the classic routes of Nepal.

Tsum valley is also named as ‘Beyul Kyimolung’. This means the holy hidden valley of happiness. Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) in the 8th century interpreted this meaning. Also, the valley is said to be named from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’, meaning ‘vivid’.

During the trek, you will mostly accommodate in local’s house. They will treat you well- welcoming with the best hospitality. The local practice follows diverse Tibetan Buddhism. The lifestyle of the people in this region has been relatively unchanged for centuries.

You circumnavigate Mount Manaslu through the Tsum Valley. The trail was opened to foreigners only in the year of 1995. And the Tsum Valley was only opened in 2008. Even now, the trail gives a very peaceful vibe.

Only a few visitors know of this mysterious and magical place. The trek merges the beauty of lush, dry grazing pasture, and the green flat land. You stare up at the Ganesh Himal, Boudha Himal Ranges, and Sringi Himal.

In the initial days, we trek along the Budhi Gandaki Valley that is comprised of dense forests, pleasant villages, and terraced fields. Throughout the trek, you pass the alpine landscapes and glacial rivers.

You get to visit the ancient Buddhist Gombas such as Milarepa’s Cave, Mu Gompa, and Rachen Gompa. It is believed that the Buddhist saint Milarepa meditate in one of these mountain caves.

Trek Overview:

Your journey to the Tsum Valley begins as you arrive in Kathmandu. After brief sightseeing in the valley, we drive to Soti Khola via Arughat. This is where our trek beings.

We walk to the villages of Machhakhola, Jagat, and then to Chisopani. Then, we walk to Chumling, Chhokang Paro, Nil, and then to Mu Gompa.

After exploring the village, we trek to Burgi, Chumling, Philim, and Khorlabesi. Then, we get to Soti River and Arughat before we drive back to Kathmandu. This is where the journey comes to an end.

Important Notes

1, The best month to do the Tsum Valley Trek is October and December. During this time, you can witness the clearest skies. The other best time is March to May when nature is all filled with colourful blooms.

It is possible to trek in other months as well. But it will be hard and needs enough preparation. Winter trek accompanied by the thick month is the most difficult time for the trek. Tsum Valley trek takes one into the remote valley at a higher altitude.

With the minimum facilities, it isn’t going to be an easy walk. One needs to walk for about 5 to 6 hours each day on a steep path. You will need a very strong physical condition and sound health.

2, The tour price is not included extra night accommodation in Kathmandu in case of early arrival, late departure, and early return from the mountain (due to any reason) other than the scheduled itinerary.
